About Square One:
Hi everyone, this is @lvl-11. I'm the founder of LVL Square. This post is about the Square One posts that play a big role in what this platform is all about.
These posts are curated content that go out to the entire LVL Square community. They are meant to to be megathreads that facilitate conversations outside of any one echo chamber. It’s about getting back to "square one" and talking to each other about the important things again.
For this to work it's incredibly important that everyone feels welcome here, and that these Square One posts are providing level ground for discussion. I want a place where you get hear and be heard by everyone.
Note that users must still follow the Community Guidelines, which will be strictly enforced.
I genuinely hope that these Square One posts provide value to you on their own as a quick update on everything that’s going on. However, I view them as just the foundation to be built on by you, the LVL Square community. Your takes are what really matter to me, and is what I think is truly important for the community. I call it "Social News". The rating and scoring is structured to incentivize users to write and vote for strong “level headed” arguments. The hope is that the cream of the crop rises to the top of the "Takes" section. The goal is to get some really thoughtful, high quality input from the community. Fingers crossed.

I want to move toward a lot of the discussions around big topics to be community driven. I am truly excited (and a little nervous TBH) to see the things that people here suggest.
How we use AI:
Right now, AI is being used to help with research and writing many of these posts. Posts that involve AI assistance are reviewed and edited by real people before they are published. There are a few reasons for the use of AI in this process:
Simply put, Square One wouldn't be able to exist without it. At this time the project is 100% bootstrapped, without investors, so I can't hire a team yet. I’m working a full-time job unrelated to LVL Square. Additionally, staying investor-free is part of what keeps the mission honest.
AI catches my blind spots. More than once it's flagged phrasing in my own drafts that read as biased or coded toward a particular worldview, things I wouldn't have caught on my own.
Eventually I'd like a team of journalists working on these posts once the budget allows, but I expect I'll still run everything through AI for a thoroughness and bias check, even then.
There’s a growing backlash to AI, and I get it. It’s becoming more and more difficult to keep up without it, so it’s going to be a bit of a balancing act. Also, please note that I am a long time em dash user--I'm trying my best not to use them on here too much, but no promises!
