LVL Square Community Guidelines
These are the official Community Guidelines for LVL Square.
Our Purpose
LVL Square exists to surface honest debate, not to declare winners. We want people to bring their real views, back them up, and engage with people who see things differently. The goal is understanding, not domination.
Violating these guidelines may result in content removal, account restrictions, or other action at our discretion.
Content Standards
Not allowed:
- Hate speech or content that demeans people based on identity, or promotes hate organizations and extremist ideologies
- Harassment, threats, or targeted abuse of any user
- Violence or threats of violence
- Graphic violence, gore, or content depicting real harm
- Sexual exploitation or adult content
- Content promoting or facilitating self-harm or suicide
- Content that endangers child safety
- Illegal or restricted content
- Doxxing or sharing private information about anyone
- Spam, scams, fraud, or copy-pasted/duplicate content
- Misinformation or disinformation, especially claims that are easily verified as false
- Copyright or intellectual property infringement
- Impersonation of another person or organization
Encouraged:
- Clear, substantive arguments
- Sourcing claims when possible
- Sharing personal experience relevant to the topic
- Acknowledging the strongest points on the other side
Civility Expectations
Strong opinions are welcome. Personal attacks are not. Disagree with the argument, not the person making it.
A few principles we ask everyone to hold to:
- Assume good faith. Most people you disagree with are working from different information or experience, not bad intentions.
- Make your case to people who don't already agree with you. That's where persuasion actually happens.
- Be willing to update your view if the evidence warrants it.
- Treat this as a shared effort to understand an issue, not a contest to be won.
Manipulation & Coordinated Activity
LVL Square's value comes from reflecting genuine, individual opinion. Activity intended to distort that (coordinated voting, sockpuppet accounts, brigading from outside groups, or any attempt to game the platform's ranking or reaction systems) undermines the platform for everyone and is not allowed.
Identity & Impersonation
Users may not misrepresent who they are, including falsely claiming to be a public figure, journalist, or organization. Verified accounts are marked accordingly. If you're not verified, don't imply that you are.
Public Figures & Sensitive Topics
Discussion of public officials' conduct in their official capacity is fair game, as is any public figure's public statements and actions. This isn't a license for personal attacks unrelated to their public role, or for harassment of private individuals connected to a topic.
Some topics involve real people and real consequences. We ask users to keep that in mind, especially on subjects that are actively affecting people's lives.
Reporting
If you see something that violates these guidelines, or a take that's landed in the wrong category (Yes, No, Other), you can report it. We review reports and take action where warranted.
